LLRF9/500 Commissioned at ELSA

LLRF9/500 installed in ELSALLRF9/500 is a newly introduced low-level RF control solution from Dimtel, Inc. During two weeks from October 16th through 25th, the first production unit was commissioned at ELSA in Bonn. During commissioning, all features of the system were tested and verified. These include:

  • Internal temperature stabilization;
  • Cavity vector summing and field control;
  • Hardware-triggered ramping of station voltage and phase;
  • RF input interlocks (reflected power, forward power, overvoltage);
  • Interlock daisy chain;
  • Interlock timestamp capture;
  • Tuner motor control (two tuners per cavity);
  • Cavity field balancing;
  • Extensive time- and frequency-domain diagnostics.

In commissioning, the system was shown to successfully support ELSA injection-ramping-extraction cycle, limited only by available RF power. After the commissioning period, the unit remains at ELSA on a long-term loan. It will be used in routine operation of the accelerator as well as in machine development studies.
